How I’m preparing to preserve Baby Parker’s childhood moments

It’s no secret that I love photos… I mean, hello, I’m a photographer. But I’ll be completely honest and say that I’m not the best at keeping our personal photos organized and I don’t often bring my professional camera with me when Allan and I do things together, like go apple picking or hiking. Well, that’s going to change when baby Parker Joins us! Here is a list of things I’ve already set in place to prep for all the photo magic and the memories we’re going to create/capture when little guy arrives!

Tips for how to organize and store family photos

1 - I Created an email for him. - I know, sounds crazy, but hear me out. There are 2 big reasons for doing this. First off, every month I want to send him little love letters to someday read when he’s older. I’ve never been the best at journaling, but I’m pretty sure I can stick to writing an email once a month. The second reason is because when you create a gmail account you get 1TB of cloud storage for free! So, in that google drive, I have created folders for every month (and weekly folders inside the first month folder) so that we can easily access and organize his photos and videos by month!

2 - I purchased a 1TB external Hard drive for personal use only. I have so many hard drives for my business, but I wanted to have a separate hard drive to edit all our personal photos on. My goal is to edit the photos I take with my professional camera weekly, and set aside the best images to a smart collection in Lightroom (photographers, you know what I’m talking about), and at the end of each year I will create a family photo album will all photos in the collection. (I will be using Katelyn James’ method for how to stay organized with this)

3 - I created a family instagram account for us - In addition to all the photos I’ll be snapping on my nice camera, I know there will be A LOT of times when all I will have is the camera on my phone. So for phone photos, I’ll take the best images, edit them using the Lightroom mobile app, and post them to our family IG account. Then, I’ll create a small book using chapbooks, which is a company that takes all your IG photos turns them into a little book! I know I’m not going to have the patience to take my phone photos and put them in with the nice photos to create a book, so I love this idea! Or if I don’t keep up with these small books, honestly it will be nice to just have a Instagram account to look back at our family adventures!

4 - I downloaded the Family Album App - Since both of our families do not live near us, I decided this app would be a great way to include them in on baby Parker’s growth and milestones. It’s basically an app that you upload photos to and anyone invited to the album can view, comment, and upload images! The app automatically sorts the photos by month and it also has a one second a day video feature. This is going to be such a great way for us to easily share photos of the baby with our families in Wisconsin, Texas, Florida, Arizona, Oklahoma and Mexico and we won’t be the annoying parents who post one million photos of their baby to facebook daily.

Ok, friends, I think that’s everything! These are the things that I know I can commit to in order to preserve our memories well. I hope this helps give you ideas on how you too can capture, organize, store, and print your photos!  As always, comment below with questions or things you do to preserve your memories!
